Tenryu Jokai Blackwell Roshi, a Soto Zen priest in the White Plum Lineage, received Dharma Transmission (authorization to teach) in 2014, following the completion of formal study at Yokoji Zen Mountain Center with Tenshin Fletcher Roshi. Jokai Roshi received Inka (final approval) from Tenshin Roshi in 2022.

During his formal training, encompassing over a decade of residential training and service, Jokai completed koan study. His expression is informed by a thorough grounding in the traditional forms and diverse experience in business and as a father and partner. Jokai emphasizes the direct experience of awakening using contemporary language and time-honored methods. Originally from Wales, UK, Jokai continues to live and serve as Vice Abbot at Yokoji Zen Mountain Center.
