Daylong: The Three Tenets of Zen Peacemaking

9:00 am - 3:00 pm, Saturday May 15, 2021
Online - Presented by Insight Community of the Desert
The Three Tenets: Not-Knowing, Bearing Witness and Taking Action serve as a catalyst for transformative engagement in the world.

Description

The Three Tenets of Zen Peacemaking were originally developed and taught by Roshi Bernie Glassman, a Dharma successor of Maezumi Roshi and pioneer of engaged Buddhism.

At Yokoji Zen Mountain Center, we focus on the Three Tenets during our monthly Day of Reflection. The Three Tenets: Not-Knowing, Bearing Witness and Taking Action serve as a catalyst for transformative engagement in the world. The Three Tenets support our ability to clearly see, work with, and respond to complex and deeply triggering concerns and issues. Through the practice of meditation, we come face to face with Not-Knowing, realizing the limitations of our fixed ideas and concepts. Out of this place of open encounter with life, our capacity to Bear Witness to the pain of the world emerges. As we hear the cries and sorrow of a land in tumult, we naturally Take Action to respond to the suffering we see and feel all around us.

This day long retreat will include ample time for meditation and periods of restful silence as well as dharma talks and discussions focused on Not-Knowing, Bearing Witness and Taking Action.

The Three Dharma Seals – A Multi-Day Retreat

Thursday June 3, 2021 - Sunday June 6, 2021
Online - Presented by Long Beach Meditation
Thursday, June 3rd at 6:30pm – Sunday, June 6th at 10:00am

Please join us for a multi-day online retreat led by Jokai Blackwell and Tim Colohan focusing on the Three Dharma Seals: Impermanence, Non-Self and Nirvana. Our retreat will include sitting and walking meditation, one-on-one private practice interviews with a teacher, and small group breakout rooms hosted by LBM Dharma Teachers. The schedule includes Dharma talks on Friday and Saturday, optional early bird meditation each morning, morning and evening chants with scheduled time for silent meals and rest breaks.

Description

The Three Dharma Seals: Impermanence, Non-Self and Nirvana are a time-honored and essential teaching of Buddhism through which we can deepen our understanding of everyday reality. Through insight into the nature of impermanence we find no separate fixed identity of self and other. In accord with the constant change and flow of our life we can realize the truth of non-self, finding freedom from conditional beliefs and concepts, opening the gate to actualizing nirvana. Multi-day retreats bring a rare opportunity to go deeper with our practice in the supportive container of the Sangha. Attending an online retreat at home offers a unique chance to practice in the midst of our everyday life. Please join us.
